In this process, the embryologist removes the follicle cell surrounding the egg using a medicated enzyme solution. A matured egg is then used in this process and is held by gentle suction in a glass pipette. A glass microneedle is used to inject the single sperm into the innermost part of the egg or cytoplasm.
